This interview is the second in a 3-part series where I talk to three young people about their career journeys, professional interests, and finding their purpose. You can read the first interview and learn more about the series here.

For the second interview in the series, I talk to Oluwaseeto Tanimola. As a Designer at Paystack, Seeto has been involved in some exciting projects. We discuss her decision to switch to design after studying architecture for many years. She provides insight into her journey of becoming a self-taught designer and her inspiration for starting a design and architecture podcast.

The last 6 months have been incredibly confusing for me. I graduated from my MBA program in April and started a new job in a fast-paced environment which has required co-leading and juggling multiple projects. I have also lived through a pandemic, like everyone else, unable to visit friends and family or do many things that normally feed my spirit. Being in new and uncharted territory has caused me to think deeply about my finances, budding career, purpose, and short- and long-term goals. …

Nollywood and social change (women’s rights, human rights, LGBT rights, social and income inequality et cetera) are two things that I am passionate and vocal about. I have written reviews and recommendations of Nigerian films for blogs in the past and I found that very fulfilling. However, I decided last year that I wanted to do more than just write reviews — I wanted to give social commentary on these films and talk about what they were doing right or wrong in this regard. I decided I was going to take some time during the Christmas/New Year break to write…

In 2014, one of my professors who is a medical anthropologist along with a team of translators, medical doctors and other health care professionals went to Senegal first, and then Burkina Faso to conduct research on how elderly people who have type II diabetes and/or hypertension in these two countries manage their disease(s).

They conducted interviews in French with elderly diabetic and hypertensive patients and asked them questions such as: “what do you think are the symptoms of diabetes” and “what have you done to treat your illness?” amongst others. The point of the interviews and this research has been…

I’m sitting on the third floor of the library in front of a computer, running regressions for my project and I’m stuck. And sad.

I’ve been sad all semester. It’s this perpetual sadness that has refused to go away. I keep thinking to myself: “What if you’re depressed?” But I refuse to call what I’m going through depression because I don’t think it has reached that stage yet. Also, I don’t want people to think I want attention. So when people ask, I just say I’m sad.

I’ve been like this for a couple of reasons: I’ve been terribly homesick…

It’s high time I properly documented why I am generally averse to dating. I have never been in a proper relationship. I did date a couple of guys in secondary school, but that’s secondary school. We were babies and it doesn’t count. My 1st year of Uni, I was in a long distance relationship for about 5 months. I never really count this relationship because I stopped loving him after the 1st month of being together. My 3rd year, I got back with an ex from secondary school but it did not really work out. We only lasted for about…

My first actual Medium post. I just finished reading something that one of the people I follow on here (a guy) wrote and I’m gingered to write. The person whose post I wrote was writing about his life generally. I think I have a crush on him and I was just happy to read about his life and I thought to myself: “why don’t you write about your life; someone might want to know what’s going on with you.” So here I am, at 1:28 am, writing something even though I need to be up at 7 to workout. I…
